Yamaha Stage Custom Birch 5pc Drum Set w/22" BD Deep Blue Sunburst

Amazing bang for the buck. Got a 4 piece (12/14/20/14 snare) and was able to add on an additional 16 floor tom in matching finish through DCP's stock, along with a bunch of heads, stands, and accessories. Great shipment and everything came packed nicely. Love ordering from here! Great folks with good knowledge and customer service. I did notice the bearing edge on the bottom of my 16 floor tom and the reso side of my 20 kick each had a small dent in them but nothing crazy, and has not affected putting on heads nor caused any tuning instability. Lastly, the color is way more TEAL in person. The camera cannot capture the true color of this kit. Online it looks super BLUE and kind of a navy blue or cobalt blue - but in person it looks much more like a cerulean blue that is kind of... different(?) depending on the angle you look at it. Lot more depth to the color to my eyes than on camera. The weirdest thing, but a cool color nonetheless!

I will say these drums sound way, way better under mics than in the room. It is very odd, but you almost gotta trust that the drums sound better miked up, or in a live setting - even with my tried and true head combos and tunings. At first setup & jam by myself the drums seemed to have an odd sound I have not experienced with my Tama Starclassic Walnut/Birch or my PDP Concept Maple. No clue how to explain it, not a bad thing at all, but a noticeable "thing"... Thinking about it, maybe the drums needed to broken in, per se. I have put in maybe a good 10-15 hours onto this kit and so far I definitely I see the Yamaha hype. Wow! With proper tuning and some nice cymbals, I would have no idea this was an "entry"/novice level kit.

Also! I stained the interior wood of all the drums myself when I unboxed them just because. Normally the inside is maple and is with no finish whatsoever. I used Varathane Penetrating Wood Stain with the color Red Mahogany. I wanted to approximate how the inside of my Tama Starclassic W/B looks, which has the inner plies made of a dark walnut. I could have used a darker stain but I wanted more of that "red" wood coloring and less "dark brown" wood coloring. Came out fairly well, and I did not even have to remove the hardware, just used the boxes the drums came in as a safe area to stain the drums. I applied with some cotton shop rags. Afterwards, I made some diecut logos and used this 60s Yamaha logo I found that looked pretty classy and sleek and said "eff it, why not?" so here we are.

PSA: Please be careful if doing the same thing I did - the stain is oil based, so be sure to lay out the rags flat on a pavement or concrete to let them air out once done with them *BEFORE* throwing away, or you could start a fire as the oil on the rag heats up as it dissipates/evaporates(?) off the rag. Please avoid house/shop fires from oil-based wood stain rags! That being said, it was so easy to do and (in my humble opinion) my kit looks 10 times better, and having a kit that is nice to look at makes me want to play it even more.
